Washington, North Carolina ~ Ocracoke Island, North Carolina

Route:  OCW ~ W95 ~ MQI ~ OCW  180 nautical miles

I know there is Land out there someplace, the GPS can't Lie!
Flew from Warren Field (KOCW) to Ocracoke Island (W95) across the bay and had planned to just fly over Ocracoke Airport due to expected cross-winds; however the wind sock was straight down the runway SO we landed, walked around town bought T-shirts, then went to the Howard's Pub for a snack and a free ride back to the Airport!  Then flew back up the Hatteras along the beach and went to Dare County Regional (KMQI); met Craig Valentine who landed right after us in a motorized hang glider - when I asked where he was from he said "Lodi California"! Not that far from Tulare!  What a trip he must of had!

Final for W95
Ocracoke Lighthouse

Katie after two beers was ready to start flying again at Howard's Pub.

Approaching Dare County Regional
Craig Valentine from Lodi with Katie!

Heading back to Washington, NC Warren Field.

Driving to The Outer Banks, of North Carolina

We took our rental car and off we went heading the long way to Roanoke Island, and the Museum of Flight!

Most of the Churches in North Carolina have their Cemeteries around them.

One of our first stops at The Outer Banks information center, where a "fellow pilot" gave us the scoop on where to eat lunch!

Poor Richard's, where we bought Lunch!

Manteo, North Carolina
Today, June 20th, we are out to get to the beach!  Which we did by car, driving to Roanoke Island - had lunch while watching aircraft come and go into Manteo (KMQI Dare County Regional Airport) and then drove up the outer banks to the Wright Brothers National Memorial.

Lunch at a small park next to the KMQI runway, watching the traffic depart was great!

Near where we ate lunch

Dare County Regional Airport on Roanoke Island.

 The Whalehead Club

Watching these sisters perform was almost as fun as watching their Parents crack up at their posing!

One for the wall!

Wright Brothers National Memorial
We scooted across the HWY to a public access point and dipped our toes into the Atlantic!  Actually we misjudged the wave action and spent twenty minutes drying out on a wooden bench enjoying the View!

The Atlantic Ocean at Last!

Katie wished she had a suit.

Then North to Currituck Lighthouse, then back to the motel in Washington, NC.

Louisville, Kentucky

Mike & Jean's Louisville, Kentucky.
Sunday June 17th we went to church with Mike & Jean, then to Old Chicago for Pizza, Yum!  Then a nap and quiet afternoon watching TV and listening to Mike play the Guitar.

Monday June 18th we had a list of to-do's:
Booker Noe Statue at the Jim Beam Factory in Clermont, Kentucky.
First we went to the UPS Store and shipped off 70lbs of excess load home, and then went by Bowman Field to check on the plane and see if it was full of water after the Storms!  No discernable water inside, ordered a fuel up and then on to the Freeway!  Went to the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky with Katie, Mike & Jean for the tour today and tasted some fine (Free!) Bourbon!  Had some difficulty talking for a couple of minutes after; obviously not an experienced Bourbon drinker!  Went in search for a Louisville T-Shirt, and then to Saints Pizza for Trivia Competition where Mike & Jean's team came in 2nd by just two points out of 14 teams.  A lot of fun and now to rest up for tomorrow morning where we will be leaving Louisville, Kentucky for Washington, North Carolina for a couple of days.

Several of the 20,000 barrels in the toured Wharehouse.

Louisville, Kentucky

Belle' of Lousiville
Quite a day today!  Went down to the river for a boat Cruise, had some wine!  Went to the Hard Rock Cafe for the obligutory hat and T-Shirt with Jimi Hendrix for Katie; then back to Mike & Jean's house and hit by a downpour!

When it rains in Kentucky it really rains, the road became a river!  Katie said "I'm rolling down the window so I can smell the clean air!"  The last picture shows the result!

Louisville, Kentucky Rainstorm!

Good thing Katie was sitting there, or the back seat would have been  SOAKED!

Louisville, Kentucky

Mike, Jean and I Met Katie at the Airport in Louisville, Kentucky and had a great dinner at Kaelin's "Birth place of the Cheeseburger 1934".  Had a beer and of course a Cheeseburger!  Saw some of the countryside around the town before Katie flew in.  Almost every house in Louisville is made of bricks, try to find one that is not!  Mike and Jean were great hosts the whole time we were in Louisville and showed us around!
